Building started
in the summer of 2000. According to an agreed, obligatory
schedule the stadium should be finished by June 30, 2004 at
the latest. All works are on schedule. Construction measures:
- Reconstruction will be accomplished in
three main sections.
- The lower ring will be completely
demolished and newly built including changing the slope and line of
view.
- Reconstruction work on the upper ring
will include the stairs, redevelopment of the supporting
construction, installation of VIP lounges and catering facilities.
- The pitch will be lowered during the
2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan, because only then the break is
sufficiently long.
- Work on the roofing should also begin in
2002.
- After the completion of reconstruction
there will be 76,000 covered seats. Till now there were 75,000
seats, 27,000 of them covered.
- 30,000 of the present seats will be
re-installed in the reconstructed stadium. The remaining seats will
be renovated.
- Special aspects to preserve monuments
must be observed in the areas of facade, stands of honour and
marathon gate.
- Extension of the guest of honour, VIP
and business areas plus underground parking spaces.
- Reduction of the supporting pillars
carrying the roof of the stadium.
- Installation of large-screen video
displays.
The building measures in the interior of the
stadium should be finished by mid-2002.
