The Council of the City of Cologne decided on June
27, 2000 to reconstruct Muengersdorfer Stadium into a modern and
functional, purely football stadium.
- On June 13, 2001 the jury decided on the model submitted by the
architects GMP, von Gerkan, Marg und Partner/Aachen. Hamburg.
- On September 11, 2001 the order for construction was given to Max
Bögl Bauunternehmung GmbH&Co. KG, Sengetahl, after approval by
the City Council.
- Building permit procedures have been initiated on September 15,
2001.
- After the last home-match of 1. FC Cologne in 2001, the first
spade was dug.
- Construction work should be completed by the beginning of the
2004-2005 season.
- Building owner is the Sportstaetten Company, a 100 per-cent
subsidiary of the City, from which 1. FC Cologne will purchase the
rights of use and marketing.
Matches will continue during construction; space for 30,000 spectators
must always be guaranteed.
