For the UEFA Cup Final on May 19, 2001 the following
improvements were already completed:
- Installation of the new, modern public address system.
- Equipping the seats in the guest of honour area in the west stands
with arm and back rests.
Further planned modernisations:
- Removal of the fences behind the goals and installation of a
flexible fencing system plus installation of special spaces for
wheelchairs in the stands.
- Modernisation and extension of the team areas (changing and
referees' rooms).
In November 2001 is was decided to extend the corner of the stadium thus
increasing the capacity to approximately 60,000 seats.
