 After the award of the 2006 World Cup, 1. FC Kaiserslautern intensified the efforts to extend Fritz Walter Stadium to be suitable for the World Cup. Since the submission of the bidding file in August 1999, the following changes are intended:
  • The east and west corners will be extended.
  • The media facilities should be integrated in the north stands.
  • New floodlight system on the roofs of the south and north stands.
  • Completion of the existing new public address system in the east and west stands.
Building schedule:
Reconstruction of east and west stands, shell construction plus additional level in the north stands by 2003, during the playing season.
