Franken Stadium should be
further improved by various measures. By lowering the pitch and
additional stands the capacity should be increased. The decision of the
City Council regarding the new concept was taken on December 13, 2000.
According to this decision, the following changes will be made:
- Extension of the seating capacity by
5,500 seats to accommodate 45,500 spectators including additional
seats for media and VIPs. Building of a functional section for
football fans (1,000 people) behind the back straight.
- Reconstruction of the ground floor in
the grandstands as a mixed zone. Building of a press centre and
functional rooms in the not yet developed south-west corner.
- Construction of 162 seats in boxes.
- Accommodation for FIFA and OC offices
plus meeting rooms in the House of Sports behind the grandstands.
- Construction of a two-storey parking
area (200 spaces) in front of the House of Sports.
Beginning of construction is scheduled for
2002, all building measures should be concluded by July 2005.
